When Cleveland Shows Up, We Show Up Too
The St. Malachi Church Run/Walk is already one of those Cleveland events people know for its energy, personality, and strong community support. This year, it became even bigger when runners and walkers gathered on Saturday, March 14, 2026, for an official Guinness World Records attempt for the world’s largest sport kilt race.
Thousands of participants filled Cleveland’s West Side for the 47th annual event, turning a longtime local tradition into a record-setting day for the city. Coverage of the run reported that the previous sport-kilt record of 2,040 (also set by Cleveland in 2019) was beaten, with one local outlet reporting 3,385 kilted runners.
That made it a big day for Cleveland, but the event was never just about the record. It was a chance for people to come together, have fun, and be part of something that felt distinctly local.

More Than A Race Day Crowd
Part of what made the event stand out was how much character it had. Participants could choose between a 2-mile course and a 5-mile course, and registration included a sport kilt, race shirt, finisher medal, and access to the post-race hooley. Race-day programming also included bagpipes, Irish dancers, and DJ Steph Floss, which gave the whole thing the kind of atmosphere that made it feel more like a Cleveland celebration than a standard road race.
The crowds around St. Malachi Church and West 25th Street made it clear this was not some throwaway novelty event. People showed up in huge numbers because the run already meant something to the city, and the Guinness attempt gave everyone another reason to be part of it.

After the race, the celebration continued with the event’s traditional hooley along West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue. That helped make the day feel even bigger than the race itself. It was a full community event built around local pride, tradition, and a good cause.
The Event Also Supported Important Work In Cleveland
What made the day even more worthwhile was where that energy went. Organizers said 100% of proceeds benefit charity through Malachi Ministries, and local coverage described the run as the parish’s largest fundraiser supporting more than 20 ministries, including food programs, clothing assistance, and help with rent and utility bills.
That is the kind of event Merriman Legal was proud to support and participate in. This was not just a headline-grabbing record attempt. It was a community event tied to real outreach and real help for people in Cleveland.

When an event can bring people together, give the city something to celebrate, and support meaningful work at the same time, that is something worth showing up for.
