Westlake, OH (March 16, 2024) – The Westlake Police Department confirmed that one person was injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident reported in the area on Wednesday evening, March 14. Calls for help were received by the police, firefighters, and emergency medical services at around 6:35 p.m.
According to area law enforcement, a black 2022 vehicle was heading east on Interstate 90 while using the middle lane. As the vehicle passed through the area just east of the Dover Center overpass, the driver of a gray 2013 vehicle changed lanes from the right lane and entered the center lane. As a result, the two vehicles collided. The impact of the crash caused the black vehicle to spin around and go off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle came to rest in the grass. The gray vehicle came to rest, positioned next to the median located on the left side of the roadway. Both vehicles were unable to be driven and had to be towed from the scene.
One person involved in the accident was injured. The Westlake Fire Department responded to the scene to render aid to 62-year-old Thomas John Hornikel. He was then transported to St. John Medical Center for further treatment. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
