Fostoria, OH (May 26, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident reported on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of two people. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was informed of the accident at around 1:30 p.m. on May 23.
According to official reports, a Kia Soul was traveling north on US Highway 224 when it was struck by a northbound CSX train near US Route 23. Two people in the Kia sustained fatal injuries. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as 72-year-old Ellen Atherton and 75-year-old Rex Atherton. No other injuries were reported. The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are currently investigating the accident.
