Canton, OH (April 3, 2024) – On Monday, April 1, emergency crews in Canton were called to the site of a motor vehicle accident where injuries occurred. The accident was reported to law enforcement at around 2:05 p.m.
According to official reports, a blue 1998 vehicle was parked in the 1700 block of 9th Street Southwest during the afternoon hours. At the same time, another vehicle was traveling south on the roadway at the intersection with Garfield Avenue Southwest. As that vehicle approached a stop sign, the driver of a silver 2014 Ford Escort began experiencing a medical issue. As a result, the Ford Escort entered the sidewalk and struck a fire hydrant. The fire hydrant flew across the road and struck the blue parked vehicle. The Ford Escort then proceeded forward and crashed into the black 2020 Toyota.
One person was hurt in the accident. Canton Fire-EMS responded to the site to care for 47-year-old Betty Gilmore. Gilmore was then transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
